Silk Road Project Part I

Furnace to Flame: A Journey In Glass

I found an article with a collection of beads found in China that had traveled along the Silk Road. I attempted to make all of the beads pictured over the course of the winter of 2013. The final paper was used to graduate with a Rum degree and I taught about the project at Lillies War and at Castle Wars. Tourney of the Foxes was doing a Silk Road team that year so I entered them into the populace judged competition. I was not happy with my results. I would come back to this project two more times. The inspiration for the project was the article “Silk Road Glass in Xinjiang, China: Chemical compositional analysis and interpretation using a high-resolution portable XRF spectrometer”.
