MDATS Day 10, Part I: Dog Carting
My Journey: Mush.
11/14/2024 Iceland
Today is dog carting day I was up early to get to the location and the days journey began with gas at Orkan.
I took the opportunity to go to the WC before heading to meet up location for the dog carting.
WC at Esjurætur - Hiking Center
The parking lot near Mt. Esja was the nearest WC. It also offered some trail to explore if one head the time. I enjoyed to location just long enough enough to take in the sights and off to the meet up.
I booked my activity on line through Dogsledding. They offer both sledding and carting. You get to do which ever the weather calls for. On the day I booked there was no snow yet so it ended up being dog carting. I met the tram at the meet up location labeled Esjumelar DRY Dogsledding Iceland on google.maps.
I was assigned to a cart of 5 people and we were pulled by an all girl team. There was also an all boy team traveling in front of them.
I do not have good GPS data from the ride so I will not have many place names for the pictures.
The dogs loved to get wet.
It was over cast all day.
Look a water fall.
Before the excursion; during and after the ride, we had time to interact with the dogs. The crew encouraged it and the dogs loved it. Well most of them, some were shy.
Dog and Me
I did not have to be encouraged to play with the dogs.
I loved this, loved the dogs, loved the whole experience. It was a five star recommendation.
Also Dog and Me
There was only one dog who was dressed. That was biansey. Apparently she won't work without being dressed to impress.
Our cart was having some brake issues however, the crew pulled together and got us all safely moving again. We swapped divers for the mechanic.
Spare driver and me on the cart
Despite the slower speed I was still having a blast.
The Team
The train and the river met each other on the same grade and not long after this we me up with another group of tourists.
I took in the view as the process of switching out us for the other tourist took place.
The View at switch over point
The was nothing out here but us.
The dogs insisted on being seen so not a lot of time for the view I had dogs to say good bye too.
From here we got in the van to head back to our cars. Meanwhile the dogs and the other tourists continued on the trail ensuing the dogs did not have to do the same trail twice.
The van in the valley
The bus ride was not quick and gave us some time to learn more about the dogs.
I am so glad I did this.
