Rainbow Viking Project
From Furnace to Flame: A Journey in Glass
My Rainbow Life
Well, sometimes people say and do things that make LGBTQ people feel like they are not wanted and do not belong. I have made a point of claiming space and saying that we are here and we belong. In response to one of these actions, I decided to make a Norse/Viking kit that was very GAY. The apron dress is made with rainbow trim and the jacket’s inner lining is rainbow paw prints. The earrings are blue wings in honor of Clan Blue Feather, and the strand is full of LGBTQ pride beads. I also included beads and charms that represent other aspects of my life as I built out the piece. The collection consists of 4 items; a festoon, thrasher necklace, necklace, and earrings. I decided to enter the item in an A&S competition that was being held in a part of Alabama that is less than LGBTQ friendly. I also added the rainbow light to my door and room window on site. I just want other people to know that we are here and that just as I belong here, so do others.
I have come to think of these as story strands as the beads and charms are chosen to reflect someone’s life. I have since made some more of these for other people.
