MDATS Day 6 Part II: Role On Role Off

My Journey: Roll on, Roll Off Ferry

11/10/2024 New Castle

There is a bus station for the ferry right across the street from the train station. I only had to wait a short while for the bus to arrive. It was a direct line to the port.

Port of Tyne

A short while later we arrived at the Port of Tyne and off loaded the bus.

The check in process at the port was smooth security, border control, and ticketing moved rapidly.

Terminal

The ship is a roll-on, roll-off ferry named King of Scandinavia. There was little action to watch on the loading ramp, so I moved on.

After checking into my room, I spent some time familiarizing myself with the ship, setting up Wi-Fi, and getting tickets to the movie tonight.

Aft View

There was still plenty of time to enjoy the view before departure.

Just like with the terminal, there was a collection of model ships to enjoy.

Finally, we were under way on the Tyne River.

The River was quiet and the view on the of the north shore was spectacular.

Light Houses

There were quite a few light houses along the shore to see.

We were very soon at the Tynemouth with the Priory and Castle ruins to the north and light houses on both sides of the mouth.

Tynemouth Priory, Castle, and Lighthouses

The Tynemouth marked our entry into the sea and the final momements of day light. It was just perfect.

North Sea

And just like that, we were leaving the day, and England Behind. I was already happy to have chosen this method for leaving England.

Tynemouth

And now it was time to enjoy some food. I had not had much to eat today so I was looking forward to this.

Dinner was great and the service was even better.

After dinner I explored the ship and enjoyed the night sea air.

It was time to pick up my popcorn na drinks and head off to see the new Twister movie in one of the two Cinemas. I was the only one in there.

I then took a walk to see the night life it was a quiet night not much going on.

Live Band and Dance Floor

From the Dance floor to the Arcade it was dead.

One last look at the North Sea with its oil wells before bed.

North Sea

11/11/2024 North Sea

I got out on deck just in time to see the Sun Rise.

Sun Rise

I loved the sea scape and the view of the wind farm and cargo ships. I love being out at sea.

Dinner was so good I got breakfast too. It was not as spectacular.

IJmuiden

We arrived in IJmuiden shortly after breakfast I had time to watch us come into port before having to get out of the room for departure.

Did I say that I love being on boats and seeing boats; however, it time to go.

Bird

Back to the room to get my stuff and then departure.

After departure we boarded at bus and were off for Amsterdam.

Me On The Bus

I took advantage of the on ship duty free before departure got some cookies and Chocklet.

Lessons Learned and Tips:

The Ferry is great fun if you like boats.

The on board wifi was not worth it for me.

Dinner, Yes. Breakfast well depends on you likes.

Thank You
