Kiln Work Part V: Painting With Glass

From Furnace to Flame: A Journey In Glass

So, it all started with me wanting to make one of those cast feathers with colored veins.

The first two attempts were done with frit and came out splotchy so I tried glass paint. After practicing on some other items, I tried to do a feather. The final product has the glass paint under a layer of clear. The process takes three days.

I have played with using the paint to enamel the exterior of the glass and with embedding it within the glass. I am able to make them as a solid glass medallion or with a hook embedded inside a fused piece. I enjoy giving SCA awards a rainbow background.
