MDATS Day 8: Travel Day
My Journey: Trains, Planes, and Automobiles
11/12/2025 Amsterdam
I was up early in the morning to have breakfast, and then I would be off by train, plane, and an Automobile to get to my Hotel in Iceland.
The hotel provided Breakfast at the Original Pancake, which was right next door. It was as good as it looked.
Train Station
Me and my Luggage headed to the train station again on foot.
Once in the station I found my train and off I went to the airport.
Me on the Train
Once again I was on a train. My last train ride of this trip.
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
The train brought me right to the airport.
Train
The airport was a challenge to navigate, but I eventually found my place.
With no lunch on the plane, I stopped at Grab & Fly. I don't even remember what kinda pastry I got. It did the job, though.
I boarded Búlandstindur on my plane for this leg of the trip. There was a lot of taxiing to do at the airport, and as I looked out the window, I saw one canal after another pass me by.
Europe was behind me and Iceland was in my future.
Sailboat I Think
For the first time on a flight over the sea, I had a clear view of the water and could even see ships on the high seas.
England
Our flight over England took us over York and Newcastle. I so love to look out the windows when I can see the ground. Even better than clear skies is clear skies and coffee.
Scotland
It was not too long before the plane was over Scotland, the Hebrides, and then the Atlantic.
Iceland
Back in Iceland and back in the turbulent air.
Keflavík International Airport
Getting through the airport was super easy, just in and out.
The car rental company picked me up from the airport and drove me by shuttle to the lot. Waiting at the airport for pickup was brutal. The wind was ridiculously cold, wet, and strong.
I headed off in my rental car, happy to be driving myself, even if the picture does not make me look happy. It was overcast and getting dark quickly.
Reykjavík
I chose to stay at the Hotel Leifur Eiríksson, it's a very convenient location and reasonably priced. I parked on the street to check in, but had to move my car to the parking lot across the street for the night.
I parked my car, moved into my hotel, and then headed out on the town to window shop and scout out some food.
There were so many choices for dinner, I settled on seafood at Skreið, where I had bear and scallops. It was very good, very fresh. The environment was very quiet and quaint.
After diner and desert at Gaeta Gelato, then I head to the hotel to get my stuff for the pool.
Sundhöllin
Many travel blogs and vlogs recommend visiting public baths instead of spas, as the water is the same, it's cheaper, and often filled with locals rather than tourists. On this night, I went to Sundhöllin, as it was conveniently located near the hotel. It was pleasant, featuring indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, a Steam room, a cold plunge, and numerous hot tubs. I have no pictures because there are no phones or cameras out. Which was fine by me; it was a nice, quiet atmosphere, despite the kids. There was even a diving board. After my swim, I went back on the street to look for a treat before bed.
I tried a different hot dog this time at The Viking. It was good, but not the same. The little stand is inside a convenience store.
After wondering about the town I headed back to the Hotel For Bed.
