Ribe Inspired Treasure Necklace
This 18 inch necklace is inspired by Norse treasure necklaces. It is strung on stainless steel wire and finished with silver findings and a sterling silver lobster claw clasp. The beads are lampwork glass, Baltic amber, lapis luzuli, and silver. The center piece is a silver Mjölnir (Thor’s Hammer) and is similar in style to ones found in Sweden. The back of the hammer is hollow, keeping this piece light. The hammer is marked .925. There are two Cnut coins with soldered bails. The coins are made of coin silver and the bails are .925 silver bar stock. The wire wrapped charms are made of double twisted 24 g sterling silver wire. All the glass is made of COE 104 soft glass and the polychromatic beads are from my premium collection of beads. The item is meant to work well as a necklace and to be able to be used as a festoon.
About the Coins: Cnut coins are struck in house on coin silver. The dies used to make these coins were handmade for our shop. The legend says CNUT REX A, the reverse says CETEL ON EOFRIP (Ketel at York). The helm series of Cnut's coins are considered early to mid-reign. Ketel being one of several Moneyers employed in York.
All amber in my shop is intended to be used by adults as part of jewelry. Amber is not safe to give to children as it poses a choking hazard.
